History
Soroptimist International of Birkenhead received its charter in 1933, a club for women who are like-minded and try to make a difference for others. Our members are women who strive to make a difference for others, especially women and children but we also embrace whole communities in our work. We provide service and financial support through fundraising in and around Birkenhead, in addition we support various organisations nationally and internationally.
We are a voluntary organisation and whilst we uphold the principles of the club back in the last century we are now very different. Members fome from a range of backgrounds and professions. We are all like-minded and feel passionate about what we do and hope to achieve, but we also like to have a lot of fun. Our motto is if we can't have fun, we won't do it!!
The club gives the opportunity to make new friends amongst members as well as form friendships world wide. We meet twice monthly on the 2nd and 4th thursday evenings at The Bride Inn, Port Sunlight. One meeting is devoted to business issues where we plan for the future, discuss a range of issues and determine our activities. Our other meeting is a social meeting where we have a meal, speaker and opportunity to chat and generally catch up.
Although our prime purpose is to provide service and financial support, we have fun through a variety of events, trips to the theatre, canal outings, Christmas markets to name but a few.
